Battlefield 3 isn’t fun?
Let me preface all this by saying I’ve completely given up on the Call of Duty franchise. Some of that is because I enjoy playing other genres about as much as I enjoy playing first person shooters. But the primary reason is mostly because I’ve grown out of Call of Duty.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not referring to those who still enjoy Call of Duty as inferior, infantile or immature. People like what they like and that’s awesome. When I ask people why they don’t like a given game it’s always about fun or a lack thereof. When a game isn’t fun, there is nothing anyone can say to make it fun. Example, many of the 2K games are not fun. It feels like a job every time I play any of them (exception being TopSpin 4). Yet, many would beg to differ.
Fun is relative
Everyone sees and experiences fun differently. If you’ve always found Call of Duty fun, it has in many ways become your standard of fun. If a game in the same genre doesn’t meet that standard, better graphics and or gameplay will not mean a damn thing.
It bares the need to share that I don’t find Call of Duty to be fun. This is not because the game sucks or is poorly made. I just grew out of it. I’ve been playing the series since Call of Duty 2 on PC. Outside of graphics, the game has largely been the same. A proverbial Madden of first person shooters. I enjoy rich gaming experiences and Call of Duty has failed to provide me that experience as of late.
Why everything you just read fails to matter
People will like what they like. You can’t tell a vodka fanatic that whiskey is better and vice versa. But the truth of the matter is that all games are fun to one extent or another.
