When a Designer Tries to Write Ruby and Rails Code

3 years ago, I attempted to develop a project management application with Ruby on Rails. Project management is an itch that I’ve been wanting to scratch for a long long time. So I threw my hat in the pile as a hobby project. The result was a huge confusing mess of models, views and controllers. I’m seriously embarrassed by most of the code I wrote during that time.

Truth be told, there were some things I was proud of like the tagging stuff and my interpretation of “model layering”. I’m sure any real Ruby or Rails developer worth their salt will look at all of that and laugh. But as a designer, it was a lot of fun to think about a problem and solve it through programming.
